I was very happy the other day when I located a cool place for mac games. They have lots of cool games, such as neptune’s secret for mac and Jewel match for mac.

There are a few things that I am not that happy about, and that is the choice of design for the website. It looks… Well… Not very cool.

As a MAC user I’ve grown accustomed to sleek and funky design with nice usability and very easy navigation. This site fails in that aspect. They have some fun games though, so its worth going there to take a visit.

I’ve previously stated that the best SEO trick is to start up your homepage(s) and just wait. Don’t ignore it completely, but let it grow gradually instead of waiting to have the search engines index you and get some more traffic.

I’ve started a lot of homepages/sites in my effort to create a residual income on the internet, and my experience has taught me that I should not stress, and just let time do its work.

If you do the base work, and have relevant and interesting content, the rest will come automatically. Link building should obviously not be ignored, but just add a few links gradually, and you will succeed in the end

Getting just a single site to earn $5 a day is, as Courtney writes himself, a success! But having several blogs/sites that does that is even better. Each of my sites are not big earners, but all together they make a decent side-income, and every time I add a site to the portfolio, I know that it will in time add to the earnings.

The bonus with this tactic is that it also makes you less vulnerable. If you base 90% of your earnings on a single site, you are not really very secure. If that site losses its traffic for one reason or another, 90% will disappear. Spread your earnings across several sites, and you will be more secure.

Once you have finished working on your design, its time to optimize your code. Cleaning a CSS file manually can be very cumbersome and you might end with strange results, going back and forth in your backups to put in a style you should not have removed.

I was about to embark on this task anyway, when I decided to do a little Google search, and actually found a Firefox Extension developed by Sitepoint.

It’s called Dust-Me Selectors and gives you a tool to automatically search a site for its CSS styles and then present you with a list of redundant styles.

See here for the list it gave me of a site I had been working on, putting selectors in and out, and making it a big mess:

The tool itself is very simple to use, after installing it in Firefox you get a nifty little broom tool in the bottom of your window.

The tool has many nifty features, such as searching your entire site via your sitemap (.xml format or HTML sitemaps are recognized). This helps you if you have a lot of differently designed subpages, so it does inadvertently advise you to clean a selector you were actually using on a different part of your site.

After a bit of searching I found the problem, but getting into the database to clean up was a bit of a problem, since the script was still running. I had to remove the script totally from my install in order to stop it!

I was now left with 96.000 something posts, of which I knew 93.000 or so were duplicates! How to clean those up? I could use the manual approach, which I started on, but I soon realised I would be old and grey before that fixed the problem.

A bit of Google searching (where else to start your research?) I found a nifty script to help with exactly this problem:

DELETE bad_rows.*
from wp_posts as bad_rows
inner join (
select post_title, MIN(id) as min_id
from wp_posts
group by post_title
having count(*) > 1
) as good_rows on good_rows.post_title = bad_rows.post_title
and good_rows.min_id <> bad_rows.id

This solution was found on the Wordpress.org support forum

This solved the problem, and my blog is now acting normally again.
