The good and the bad side about the Web 2.0

Is the Web 2.0 an improvement or potential improvement to our lives, or will it lead to a new .com-crisis?
The good and the bad side about web 2.0
The term
The term was originally coined by xxxxxx and has since been adopted world-wide as the term defining new internet-related technology, and is usually heavily mis-used by everyone to explain the new internet. There is no update to the internet, the term merely refers to the new way users can interact with the internet in their lives.
Web 2.0 makes your life better
In my opinion, the term web 2.0 should relate to how the internet can be used. There are many new ideas and technologies that are brewing from big and small companies around the world. Some are re-thinking how you can use the internet to find and store information, and many are expanding the impact of the internet into our homes. How about using the internet to connect to your fridge, and see what you need to purchase on the way home from work? Or even have the fridge e-mail you and say you are running low on milk? That is actually being tested right now, and could be very common in a very few years, 5-10 is my best guess.
It is not all good
One of the problems with the web 2.0, is that it is like the web 1.0, back when the whole idea of the internet starting taking root in peoples lives. Whenever a company has a good or even semi-good idea, there is always a long range of companies that copies the idea, maybe fine-tuning it a bit, and release it. The web 2.0 companies are sprouting all over the world at an incredible rate. That has a positive effect on the economy, but it has its drawbacks as well. A few years ago, whenever the term web 2.0 was used by a company, they were certain to attract investors. Now, it is a bit more difficult, as the investors have become more uncertain of what the future of the internet will be. I am curious to see the future of the internet, as I have written a long time ago; Running in cycles - Prepare for the next .com blowout
Another aspect of the web 2.0, is that the amount of knowledge and information out there is staggering. Content is being provided and spread like wildfire across the internet, and the sites and companies that win, are the people who are the best at marketing. Not marketing as you and I know it from the television, radio or newspapers, but marketing as in honing in on the attractive keywords and search phrases that people will search for on the major search engines, Google, Yahoo or MSN.
New splogs (spam blogs) which contain no new knowledge, merely content scraped and republished forever, are created by the thousands every day, some say every minute. The focus of each of these blogs are to bring in traffic, or links to other homepages to increase their worth in the eyes of the search engines. It is not necessarily the best and most relevant homepage that will show up first in your search on google, it will be the one who has done the best SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
What do you think?
